The Installation of NYIT President Hank Foley
鈥淚 am honored, and I am humbled, and I feel quite privileged to be the fourth president of NYIT,鈥 President聽Hank Foley, Ph.D.,聽told academic, business, and civic leaders and members of the NYIT community who gathered to celebrate his official installation on April 12 in Manhattan.
鈥淏ut tonight is not a celebration for me,鈥 he went on to say. 鈥淭onight is a celebration of us. It鈥檚 we. It鈥檚 we thinking about our common vision, our mission, and our goals for the future.鈥
President Foley聽joined聽NYIT on June 1, 2017, and in just 10 months has conducted large-scale 鈥渓istening鈥 tours with faculty, staff, and students and has encouraged leadership to set strategies that build excitement and passion for NYIT鈥檚 future.
鈥淚鈥檓 thrilled that you are staying true to NYIT鈥檚 mission of offering opportunity to all those who are qualified,鈥 said聽Samantha Gottlieb, a third-year student in the medical scholars program at聽NYIT College of Osteopathic Medicine聽(NYITCOM). 鈥淵ou are embracing what NYIT needs to move forward, and you are keeping all that is already good about this place. It鈥檚 only been 10 months for you, but I can鈥檛 wait to return as an alumna to see what you鈥檝e accomplished in 10 years!鈥
Other speakers at the installation ceremony included聽Babak Beheshti, Ph.D., president of NYIT Academic Senate;聽Fred Harris (B.S. 鈥08, M.B.A. 鈥10), alumni representative; Laura Curran, Nassau County, N.Y. Executive; Kristina Johnson, Ph.D., chancellor of State University of New York System; and Edward Guiliano, Ph.D., past president of NYIT.
Kevin Silva, chair of NYIT Board of Trustees, and executive vice president and chief human resources officer at Voya Financial, presented President Foley with the seal of the university and a copy of the absolute charter as issued by the University of the State of New York Education Department.
鈥淭he board of trustees is excited about working with you to help achieve your vision of transforming NYIT into one of the best private institutions of higher education in the New York area,鈥 Silva said.
鈥淭he goal I have set forth during my presidency is for NYIT to be among the highest-ranked institutions of higher education in the New York metropolitan area,鈥 said Foley. 鈥淚 want us to be the school of choice for students who wish to pursue professional careers, especially in healthcare, life and molecular sciences, engineering, computer and data science, architecture, and business, and we are making progress to that end.鈥
