Sophia Domokos

College of Arts & Sciences College of Arts & Sciences Physics

Sophia Domokos, Ph.D., assistant professor of physics, received a National Science Foundation Award for her proposal, "RUI: Solitons in Holography," on August 18, 2020, for research in an area of string theory called holographic duality. The three-year grant, which runs from September 1, 2020, through August 31, 2023, has a total intended award amount of $120,000. Kevin Park, M.F.A., assistant professor of digital arts and design, is a co-investigator on the grant and will work with Domokos to produce engaging visualizations of her work.

Jamel Vanderburg, adjunct instructor of interdisciplinary studies, was mentioned in the 2020 Young People For Alumni Report, published on August 12, 2020, for his civic engagement work with students at É«½ç°É.

Babak Baheshti

Babak D. Beheshti, Ph.D., dean of NYIT College of Engineering and Computing Sciences, was quoted in the story published in The Washington Post on August 7, 2020. The story discussed how 5G could reshape the future of journalism.

Claude E. Gagna, Ph.D., professor of biological and chemical sciences, was elected as a Fellow into on August 5, 2020.

John Handrakis

School of Health Professions School of Health Professions Physical Therapy

John Handrakis, D.P.T., Ed.D., professor of physical therapy, joined an international panel of experts on the webinar series to present their committees’ findings and 2020 revisions to the International Standards to Document Autonomic Function after SCI (ISAFSCI), on July 31,2020. Handrakis chairs the temperature regulation and autonomic control of sweating sub-committees. The webinar was streamed live and attended by over 150 registered participants representing 22 countries.

Houwei Cao

College of Engineering & Computing Sciences

Houwei Cao, Ph.D., assistant professor of computer science, received a National Science Foundation Award for her proposal, "EAGER: Towards Adaptive and Robust Multimodal Emotion Recognition In-the-Wild," on July 30, 2020. The one-year grant, which runs from August 1, 2020, through July 31, 2021, has a total intended award amount of $99,916.

Amanda Golden

College of Arts and Sciences

Amanda Golden, Ph.D., associate professor of English, discussed her book, Annotating Modernism, with the New York City Irish Studies Symposium as part of an event called "Sylvia Plath and Irish Modernism," on July 27, 2020.

Pejman Sanaei

College of Arts & Sciences College of Arts & Sciences Math

Pejman Sanaei, Ph.D., assistant professor of mathematics, had a research paper, “,” published in MDPI on July 24, 2020. He worked on this paper along with his former students Shi Yue Liu and Zhengyi Chen at the Courant Institute of Mathematical Sciences at New York University.

Sarah Meyland

College of Engineering & Computing Sciences College of Engineering & Computing Sciences Environmental Technology & Sustainability

Sarah Meyland, M.S., J.D., associate professor of environmental technology and sustainability, was quoted in "," an article by Rachel O'Brien published in Newsday on July 23, 2020. She spoke about how homeowners should know about drinking water quality and how they can find out more if they are concerned about their water quality.
