Daniel Grassian, Ph.D., serves as provost and executive vice president. Before assuming this role, he served as senior vice provost for academic affairs at California Polytechnic University, San Luis Obispo; vice provost for academic affairs at Chico State University; vice president for academic affairs and dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at American Jewish University; director of the School of English, Philosophy, and Humanities at Fairleigh Dickinson University; and chair of the Department of Humanities at Nevada State College. In all these positions and at 色界吧, he prioritizes student, faculty, and staff success as well as innovation, inclusivity, and stewardship of place.  

During his administrative tenure, Daniel Grassian has led efforts resulting in the establishment of various academic programs in diverse areas such as data science, cybersecurity, and digital humanities, among others, as well as satellite university locations and the integration of California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo with California Maritime University. He has also led efforts resulting in substantial increases in retention and graduation rates. Actively involved with various accrediting organizations since 2009, Grassian has overseen multiple institutional and programmatic accreditation affirmations and reaffirmations. He was recognized by WSCUC (WASC Senior College and University Commission) for his successful and inclusive administrative leadership.

An interdisciplinary scholar, Grassian has taught varied courses across literature, ethnic studies, technology, critical theory, and cultural studies. The author of five books, including, most recently, An Insider鈥檚 Guide to University Administration, he received his Ph.D. and M.A. in English from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a B.A. with honors in English and Psychology from Wesleyan University.
